IMechE’s Virtual Work Experience programme provides an insight into the engineering profession and the critical role of mechanical engineers in addressing global challenges. Find out what mechanical engineers do, what skills they need, and what opportunities are available to you.

Top performing students will be invited to attend Formula Student 2027!

 

What’s covered

Participants will explore a range of fascinating topics, including:
  1. What is mechanical engineering?
  2. Exploring the future of energy: space-based solar power
  3. Artificial Intelligence, machine learning and automation in engineering
  4. Healthcare, biomedical and sports engineering
  5. How to become an engineer: routes into the profession

Who it’s for

Anyone with an interest in engineering can join the virtual work experience - you don't need to be studying engineering at school or college. It is open to students from anywhere in the world.

The target age group is 13-16 years old.

How to register

IMechE's virtual work experience is available on Unifrog careers platform until June 2027.

You will need to access it via your school or college Unifrog account.
