Photographer of the Year Competition

Capture engineering in a photograph to win our Photographer of the Year competition.
The competition
Members and non-members of the Institution are invited to submit up to three photographs on a set theme.
This is a unique opportunity for all engineers from across the world to share inspirational, and striking images related to the chosen theme. The judges will be looking for photographs that are ambitious, creative, thoughtful and provide encouragement and inspiration.
A distinguished judging panel of leading industry professionals will select the winning images.
How to enter
The 2020 competition is now closed. The new competition and theme for 2021 competition will be announced later this year.
Submission specifications
File format: JPEG
Longest dimension: 1000 pixels
Color space: sRGB
Restrictions: no borders, no signatures and watermarks
No radical changes should be made to the original image. Filters are not permitted nor additions from any source. RAW conversion, cropping, straightening and removal of minor blemishes is allowed.
Prize details
The overall winning photos will be featured in the Institution News newsletter, read by over 63,000 people across the world.
Regional winners
A winner and a runner up will be selected from the winner of the eight regions – Americas, North East Asia, South East Asia, Southern Asia, Europe, Middle East and Africa, UK and Ireland and Oceania.
Each regional winner will receive:
- £100 prize money
- Certificate
Overall winner and runner up
One overall winner and runner up will then be selected from the regional winners and will be awarded an additional:
- 1st prize: £200
- 2nd prize: £150
- Certificate
- Winning photos will be featured in Institution News
- Canvas of the winning photo.
